Q: Shooting photos of supercars in Singapore, how did it all get started?
It all started in 2008 when I was taking up a part-time job at Serangoon Gardens. There were a good amount of supercars in the area, such as the Ferrari 599 GTB, Lamborghini Gallardo, Audi R8 and Nissan GT-R, just to name a few. These supercars surely got my attention and interest in them and I wanted to see more of them.
So, I searched “Supercars Singapore” on Google and got linked to a supercar spotting thread in sgforums, whereby people post sightings of supercars they see. Then, I saw this forum member with really beautiful photos which inspired me to get a camera and take photos of supercars.
I would hit the town every weekend, searching high and low around every hotels for supercars to photograph them.
To me, seeing and admiring supercars is not enough; I want to photograph them too as memory keepsake, since every supercar is unique (options, personalization, modifications) and I would never know if I’ll get to see the same one again.
Q: Did anyone approach you when you were taking that perfect shot? Any funny moments?
Sometimes, passerby would ask me what am I doing, why are there so many supercars, what’s the occasion and so on. There were a few occasions when I was taking a shot and a random car drove into my frame, and the driver jokingly asked me to photograph his car too. While at hotels, some valets would pose with the car and ask me for a shot. Also, some supercar drivers would slow down and pose with a peace sign!
Q: Show us 2 of your favorite shots and the story behind them!
This has to be my favorite shot, with my all-time favorite supercar in Singapore. This Lamborghini Murcielago has been through tremendous upgrades and bodykit, and it resembles a batmobile/ stealth fighter. This very supercar has never fail to excite me when I see it everytime. Its thunderous revs always made me jump. Unfortunately, it has been exported to Australia a few years ago.
My other favorite shot includes this as well; a lineup of Ferrari’s in front of National Museum. The lineup consists of different Ferrari throughout the decades, and they fit well with the National Museum as the background.
My favorite shot too Tony! -ahtan
Q: If money wasn’t an issue, what super car would you purchase and why?
I would love to have a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640. I absolutely love this supercar; the V12 engine makes great music and the scissor doors are breathtaking!
Q: Any love for Japanese cars? What would you get?
Apart from supercars, I quite like the FD2R and BNR34. They look stunning from all angles and I would love to have one of those beautiful machines!
Q: Besides car photography, what else do you shoot?
I got interested in aviation and astronomy 2 years ago. I would say I like to photograph the things that I love!
Q: Any tips for aspiring car photographers?
Angle and composition are important so as to bring out what you want others to see in the photograph.
Q: The most important question! Are you a car siao!?
SOT ALREADY! Muahahahaha
